The Hotel Grande was one of the most impressive buildings in Coolangatta, occupying a site on the corner of Griffith and McDonald Streets. The hotel which was opened in the early 1930’s, replaced the original Hotel Grande which was built around 1913 and later destroyed by fire. The popular’ Grande was the class hotel for the well-to-do holiday maker with its ideal position, mid-way between both towns and just across the road from Greenmount Beach.
