Sydney auctions: cottage in Sydney’s west sells for first time in 63 years at “shocking” price

A two-bedroom house on a corner block in Western Sydney has sold at auction for just over $1.8 million – a result even the agents said was “shocking”.

It was the first time the weatherboard house on Hillman Ave in Rydalmere was up for sale in nearly 63 years and most of the 21 registered bidders were developers.

The $1.801 million price was about $500,000 over the reserve and the highest price paid in Rydalmere this year, records showed.
